Breaking Community News
By Bruce Keisling July 13, 2006
I interrupt this very important discussion about the relationship of the church to the culture for breaking news that is significant to many of our neighbors. As many of you know, a very important public figure sustained life threatening injuries on May 20th in a sporting event and has been undergoing a lengthy rehab and recovery. I have just learned that his recovery has had a major setback and his life is now hanging in the balance. I know that when the accident occured, many throughout the country were praying for his recovery. I write of course about Barbaro winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby sponsored by Yum Brands. If you missed the Derby and Barbaro’s win, the link will give you the full video of the race. Tragically, it is now reported in the Washington Post that Barbaro has suffered a setback and that his survival is now a “long shot”. I am sure there will be many people in our community stunned by this news. I don’t know what is appropriate, but maybe we could observe a moment of silence or something on his behalf — should, and I only say should, he pass over, we do have money in the designated fund for funeral flowers so we could do the right thing that way.
