Bruce…?Saturday, March 17th, 2007Please tell me the man that could fill our entire church with minutes from Baptist meetings isn’t going to sit by and say nothing about confessions! EnglandMonday, February 19th, 2007I’ll interrupt this important conversation to make Keith happy. Keith said that he wanted me to mention England and that then his happiness would be complete. Not wanting to deny my brother any happiness, did you hear the weekend news speculation that the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, may attend the Kentucky Derby this year? I know that this will make your joy complete. Now back to a discussion about important things. This one is for you KeithThursday, December 21st, 2006Here are are some meaningful expressions of the incarnation that I thought you would appreciate. Great sports?Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006Keith, I am not sure how some “sport” that has men running around wearing pants that are too tight and slapping each other in very personal areas qualifies as a great sport. Forgive me for questioning such an American icon as football, but there you have it. Tight pants, butt slapping and running into each other. Why on earth would you want to fantasize about it? If you want a real sport, you should try throwing the caber, a traditional Scottish game where a man throws a log weighing about 150 lbs. That’s a real sport. And instead of tight little pants he can wear a kilt. They’re great for hiding a dagger. I guess you could wear tight pants one day and a kilt the next if you wanted to. Breaking Community NewsThursday, July 13th, 2006I interrupt this very important discussion about the relationship of the church to the culture for breaking news that is significant to many of our neighbors. As many of you know, a very important public figure sustained life threatening injuries on May 20th in a sporting event and has been undergoing a lengthy rehab and recovery. I have just learned that his recovery has had a major setback and his life is now hanging in the balance. I know that when the accident occured, many throughout the country were praying for his recovery. I write of course about Barbaro winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby sponsored by Yum Brands. If you missed the Derby and Barbaro’s win, the link will give you the full video of the race. Tragically, it is now reported in the Washington Post that Barbaro has suffered a setback and that his survival is now a “long shot”. I am sure there will be many people in our community stunned by this news. I don’t know what is appropriate, but maybe we could observe a moment of silence or something on his behalf — should, and I only say should, he pass over, we do have money in the designated fund for funeral flowers so we could do the right thing that way. Research support for this article came from Mr. R. L. Evant Another fascinating Oregon factWednesday, May 31st, 2006Aaron’s reappearance on the blog managed to slip in some U of O trivia. In keeping with the spirit of his post, did everyone know that Portland is a model of urban planning? Yes, you read it here where we aim to print all the news. Furthermore, over 5,000 people commute to work on bikes every day in Portland. City planners even ripped up a freeway and replaced it with a park. Maybe we should all move to Oregon and plant a church there, then we could all ride our bikes to church. Welcome back AM. |
