From the beginning of time, God intended to redeem a people for himself in the Lord Jesus Christ. They would be from all nations, tongues, languages, and cultures. This is the clear teaching of Scripture. He promised Abraham that through his offspring all the earth would be blessed (Gen. 12:3). The apostle John received a vision of this promise fulfilled when he saw people worshiping the Lamb of God “from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Rev. 5:9).

We at Third Avenue Baptist Church believe that it is now our privilege and responsibility to proclaim the gospel to all peoples (Mt. 28:18-20; 1 Pet. 2:9-10). We want to be a part of the Great Commission both locally and internationally.

There are a number of ways we emphasize missions and evangelism. We regularly pray for a missionary family serving in Southeast Asia, that the Lord would raise up missionaries from our own body, and for the salvation of lost souls in unreached people groups. Furthermore, our Deacon of Local Outreach organizes and direct s evangelistic efforts to all peoples in our diverse neighborhood.

Financially, we try to give sacrificially to the work of the Gospel at home and overseas. A percentage of our annual budget is given to the Southern Baptist Convention Cooperative Program and fifty-percent of this budget goes directly to the International Mission Board. Every Christmas we encourage members to give above and beyond their regular offering to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering (one hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the IMB). We know we can be doing more, and we pray the Lord would bless and increase our work.
